Keselowski's Discount Tire Dodge Dominates at Kansas
October 10, 2011KANSAS CITY, Kan. (October 8, 2011) - Penske Racing's Brad Keselowski had a fantastic day on Saturday afternoon at Kansas Speedway as he vanquished the field in the No. 22 Discount Tire Dodge, leading 173 of the 200 laps en route to victory in the Kansas Lottery 300 NASCAR Nationwide Series race.
Keselowski led four times throughout the afternoon after starting on the front row on the strength of the morning's qualifying effort, which saw the reigning NASCAR Nationwide Series Champion post the second-fastest qualifying lap.
In the opening laps of the event, after battling Carl Edwards for the lead, Keselowski radioed to his team "that was fun man, did you see that? That was some good racing."
The No. 22 Dodge Challenger was in a class of its own all day long and Crew Chief Todd Gordon only called for minor air pressure adjustments to keep up with the changing track conditions during the race. The Discount Tire crew gave Keselowski solid pit stops over the course of the 300-mile race and the only miscue of the day saw Keselowski stall the car as he left the pits during a caution period, which put him back to 14th in the running order for the ensuing race restart.
In a display of dominance rarely witnessed on a mile-and-a-half oval, Keselowski drove the Discount Tire Dodge from 14th to first place in just six laps. After a late-race caution flag, Edwards was able to come out in front of Keselowski exiting pit lane. As the Penske Racing driver restarted the race in second place, Keselowski reclaimed the lead on Lap 187 and carried it to the checkered flag.
"You couldn't ask for more, that's for sure. This car was just hauling the mail," said Keselowski after exiting the car in Victory Lane. "We have fast cars, good pit stops, all these things. Just an awesome day, it was very special. I wish I could have cars like this all the time, but I'm very, very thankful to have a car this fast. Ready to go race ‘em on Sunday now, I can tell you that. This Discount Tire Dodge Challenger...awesome."
Saturday's result marked Keselowski's fourth win of the season and his 16th career Nationwide Series victory.
The Nationwide Series will compete next weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway in the Dollar General 300 Miles of Courage. The race will be televised live on ESPN2 on Friday, October 14 at 7:30 p.m. The race will also be broadcast on PRN and Sirius 90.
